How To Measure For Your Radiator Cover

You only need to measure your actual radiator size, that is,
Length - Overall Valve to valve
Height - Floor to top of radiator
Depth - Wall to front of radiator
Please ensure that you measure carefully for all cabinets and that all dimensions are maximum dimenions (e.g. varying floor heights, uneven walls and floors etc may result in varying measurements).
Made to Measure: During manufacture we automatically add the extra Length, Height & Depth measurements that allow for airflow and MDF/Veneer/grille thickness, internal fittings, shelf overhangs and cabinet construction etc. Full details of these additional dimensions can also be found on the following link Cabinet Size Information.
Should you have limited space, for example between the top of your radiator and the bottom of your window board, and the additional measurements detailed in the cabinet size information box mean that a standard made to measure radiator cover will not fit then you can find detailed info in our FAQ section on how to reduce/increase the external cabinet dimensions by artifically reducing/increasing the rad size entered when ordering. This also contains detailed info on the impact (if any) that a reduction will have and the max reductions possible etc. You will find that the ordering page will display the cabinet external dimensions for you so you can ensure you are happy with these before completing the order.
Please ensure you have read the measuring instructions carefully prior to ordering as made to measure cabinets are not returnable and orders not cancellable after commencement of manufacture.
Should you require a cut-out for valve access on the side of your made to measure cabinet then you will also need to measure the height and depth of your valve when ordering. For height you will need to measure from the floor to the centre of the thermostatic valve and for depth you will need to measure from the wall to the centre of the thermostatic valve. We will then cut a 150mm high x 90mm wide access hole in the side panel and supply a cover flap for the hole. (The side for the cut-out is taken as viewed standing in front of the radiator facing it). The minimum depth of radiator for this service is 100mm, if you enter a radiator depth of less than 100mm, we will increase the depth to 100mm.
Ready Made: Measure your radiator as detailed above. Now check that this size fits within (is equal to or less than) one of the INTERNAL sizes detailed in the size chart below. This is the minimum size ready made radiator cover you will require.
All sizes and measurements detailed below are approximate for the standard ready made sizes but may vary slightly between styles/manufacturers. Please see each individual product's "Buy-Now" pages for definitive measurements. Please also note that different importers/manufacturers also utilise different names for the sizes (e.g. some use size 0 for the smallest size, some use letters instead of numbers etc) - we advertise all our cabinets using the same standard sizing system for ease of ordering but this may mean that the cabinet has a different size printed on the box to that which you have ordered - please note that the actual cabinet dimensions will be correct as detailed on the product's ordering page.

Ready made covers manufactured by ourselves in the UK include New England, Traditional, Squares & Lines and Stars designs. All others are imported.
For UK covers the internal height shown above is the max internal space available. If you wish to use the supplied internal and invisible fixing method then you will need to allow 15mm-20mm internal space between top of radiator and underneath of cabinet but if this is not possible then you will need to utilise an external fixing kit which can be purchased from our radiator cover accessory section here. Ideally 10mm min should be allowed for airflow if at all possible. For imported cabinets the max height is the actual max radiator height that will fit allowing the supplied internal fixings to be used and some airflow space.
Note: The INTERNAL sizes are the MAXIMUM radiator size that this cover will fit over. You can of course have a larger radiator cover than the size of your actual radiator, but always make sure that the maximum EXTERNAL measurements will fit in your space i.e. check that window cill heights, alcoves or obstructions will not block where a larger radiator cover is to be fitted.
Skirting Board Cut Out
Made to Measure: You have a choice of specifying the size of the skirting cut-out (height x depth only) in the drop-down boxes when ordering. These will be pre-cut to your order as specified although note that the cut out will curve out from the height specified with a radius out to the edge of the board. Alternatively, if you leave the boxes blank and do not specify a skirting cut-out, your cover will be manufactured without cut-outs in the side panels for skirting and we will presume you will cut these yourself on-site at the time of fitting. We cannot profile the cut-outs to any particular skirting design.
The cut-out made is deisgned for skirting boards only (i.e. with a curved corner) and therefore the height you enter will be the max height of the cut out with a 9mm radius into the corner. The cutter cannot cut square cut edges into the skirting cut out. Therefore if your skirting board is square cut or you require the skirting cut out to cover e.g. square cut boxing in then you will need to add either 9mm onto the height dimenion or 5mm onto height and 4mm onto depth dimension (or vice versa) to allow for this and please note that the resultant cut out will not sit tight onto any right angle corner due to the radius in the corner of the cut out.
Readymade: A standard skirting cut-out is pre-cut in all readymade covers*; this cut-out is maximum 180mm High x 20mm Deep (Note: the cut out curves out from 150mm high with a radius out to the edge of the board).
You can of course make this cut out larger if required by masking the side panels, marking your required skirting cut and jig-sawing out the enlarged skirting size.
* Note, excluding the Henley range which will require the skirting cut-out to be made on site at the time of fixing.
Please note all sizes quoted for ready made covers have a 5mm margin of error.
Assembly & Fitting
Please ensure your cabinet is kept in dry conditions prior to assembly as exposure to damp will result in a slight swelling of the MDF fibres and may render it difficult to assemble your cabinet as the parts need to fit into tight slots and rebates that are machined very accurately to ensure a tight fit so any swelling may make this difficult or impossible.
All our covers are delivered flat packed. Minimal home assembly is required (approx 5 - 10 minutes), you will need a hammer and cross head screwdriver for assembly. If you specified a "skirting board cut-out" at the time of ordering (made to measure only) your cover is then ready to be fixed against the wall.
If you did not specify a skirting board cut-out (made to measure only), it will be assumed that you intend to profile this yourself at the time of fitting, and for this you will need a jigsaw cutter and masking tape. (Important: When cutting MDF always do so in a well ventilated place and use appropriate protective equipment).
For ready made covers they have a combination of assembly methods with either "push-fit" lugs and/or some cam bolts and screw fixings.
The exception is the Marble shaker cabinets which require slightly more assembly and also require the grilles to be screwed into position. This is however also supplied with full instructions and all fittings required.
Made to measure covers will require you hammer 11 white fixing blocks (provided) in to pre-drilled holes Assemble the cover and screw through the white blocks with the screws provided. The cover is then ready for wall fixing. The whole cover is placed in to position against the wall and you mark the position of two fixing brackets (hook type screws with pozi heads). When these are fitted to the wall the whole cover clips over these brackets and into two routered grooves on the reverse of the top lid.
In the case of our made to measure classic deisgn covers with removable fronts there is an additional part as the construction utilises a sub-frame to allow the front panel to be removed.
Removal of the whole cover for access takes just seconds, the whole cover surround can be taken away easily for full access or, in the case of our classic deisgn removable front covers, the main front panel can be removed for access.
Radiator cover weight depends on size, covers are designed to be floor standing, but for safety we recommend that covers be fixed back to the wall to stop them falling forward causing injury or damage.
All our made to measure cabinets will be delivered to you flat packed and boxed. Each part will have a unique number written on one of the unfinished edges. This part will relate to the order your cabinet appears on your invoice. E.g. if your order number is ODR6666 then the first cabinet on your order will have the code 6666 on it and then 2nd one will have 6666-1 on all its parts and the 3rd have 6666-2 and so on. Please ensure that on multiple orders, that you assemble the correct parts for each cabinet.
